Writing Project

Hello! Just an update on my not reading status… Since I won’t be able to read much in these upcoming week I have presented myself with a writing challenge to keep myself from going insane from all the studying I’m doing. Every few days I’ll be trying write a short story based on a prompt I find and completely in one sitting. This means that most of these stories will be very short and left untouched until around the end of exams, when I’ll edit them a little and post them all on here for your enjoyment! Each story will be a very rough sketch of an idea that I had in mind when I was writing it but I hope you enjoy the stories and this idea. If you want to follow my progress on the stories, you can follow my Twitter or Instagram , but otherwise I’ll see you in the next post. Keep Writing… Elise!

Life Update

Hello! I just wanted to tell you that reviews might slow down for a little while until the end of May. I feel kind of bad about this but I’m trying not to slip into a slump and school work is beginning to pile up. Once school is over I should be able to get back to reading AND I’ll be doing some traveling so I can’t wait to share pictures and videos from that! I just have to prepare for two AP tests plus multiple other exams with other homework thrown in there at the moment so please bear with me.  I will try to write some short ideas on the side during this time, but no promises. I’ll still be on my Instagram if you would like to talk on there, or you can follow me on Twitter . My Pintrest is also always active and Goodreads will be there for when I do read. I still love y’all, and I’m not going anywhere! Meagan!

Automatic Read Authors

We all have those authors that no matter what their next book is, we know we are going to pick it up. Whether it is because of that author’s track record or only one series that you love, you trust the author that much! For me, I will automatically pick up anything that Cassandra Clare or Victoria Schwab release. Cassandra Clare I’ve been a Cassandra Clare fan ever since I first read The Mortal Instruments . I enjoyed it, but The Infernal Devices truly made her one of my favorite authors. Most authors get worse when they keep revisiting a series or idea, but no, not Clare. Her stories only get better with the more she writes. I cannot wait to see where she takes the Shadowhunter universe next! Victoria Schwab I became a fan of Victoria Schwab back when I read The Archived and LOVED it! From then I read Vicious , The Unbound , A Darker Shade of Magic , and A Gathering of Shadows . Victoria Schwab always crafts brilliant stories and intriguing characters. At this point

Top 5 Wednesday... 4/20

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not, stay! This week’s topic is top 5 books we’re intimidated by. This is a hard topic for me to do a T5W on because I don’t necessarily keep a list of books that I’m intimidated of, but I do have a particular genre that I tend to stay away from. High Fantasy While I will give this genre a chance, especially if someone recommends a book to me, I tend to stay away from larger high fantasy novels. Despite their interesting premises, books such as Game of Thrones intimidate me because of their size. I have been reading more high fantasy with V E Schwab’s book, and I know I’ll get around to Game of Thrones one day, but I just don’t know when. Are there any genres or books that intimidate you? Keep Reading… Elise

Required Reading: The Great Gatsby

Last Thursday, after I finished reading The Great Gatsby , I found myself in a situation that I know all too well being a high school student: saying, ‘I enjoyed that, but I would’ve enjoyed it much more if I hadn’t had to cram it for school.’ This brings up the question that many students have been asking for years, why do I have to read books for school? It only ruins the books for people who enjoy reading, and everyone else simply doesn’t read the book. I actually enjoy reading books in English class! It has introduced lots of books to me that I would’ve never read otherwise, but, due do to looming due dates forcing me to cram, I find it hard to enjoy some required books. My recent read of The Great Gatsby , sadly, falls into the second category. I was enjoying the book until I got to the second half and had to read one hundred pages in one night. Once I finished the book all I could think was that I enjoyed the book but I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if I could’ve taken my t

Bookstagram April 2016

Image
Hello! If you don’t use Instagram then you might not be familiar with the term bookstagram, but it is basically a community on Instagram where people post pictures of and discuss books (much like the booktube community). This community will be the topic of a new monthly feature on here where I show off pictures from other accounts that I love, some of my favorite bookstagramers, and recent pictures from my account. Pictures I Love Here are a few of my favorite recent pictures from the Bookstagram community! Accounts featured: TheFearlessReader Just_Me_Annac YaBookNerd Favorite Bookstagramers AloofBooks This account is very simple but the pictures are all gorgeous! Most of the pictures have a white background adding a sense of unity to the whole account and tying the pictures together beautifully! LookingF0rBooks This account is a lot more diverse in its types of pictures but none of the pictures seem out of place. All of the pictures look beauti

Shadowhunters Season 1

Image
Well, a season of Shadowhunters has come and gone! And how was it…? It was, umm, serviceable… It’s crazy to think, just a year ago the fandom was going crazy about the fact that Jace got cast and the show was officially going to air on ABC Family (*cough* Freeform), and now here we are, at the end of season one, and renewed for season two! Fan reaction for Shadowhunters has been extremely mixed since it premiered and I have been pretty open about the fact that I believe the show is not a quality show, but I enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. From the first episode of Shadowhunters , I knew the show was not going to be of the best quality, but I knew it was going to be a great guilty pleasure watch! I LOVE watching Shadowhunters after I’m already in a good mood from The Flash the hour before, and laughing at the mistakes but still being interested in the differences from the books. But that’s my issue with Shadowhunters , you have all of these amateur mistakes where they cl

Keep Reading… Elise!

My Netflix Adventure: The Shining and Blade Runner

Image
Hello! Come continue on My Netflix Adventure with me as we discuss two 80s movies… The Shining and Blade Runner . I went into this movie with very different expectations than what I got. For some reason I was expecting this to be a more straight forward story of a man’s decent into madness, and while you get parts of that, you also get a completely different experience— a more confusing experience. I didn’t expect The Shining to have so many layers and be so confusing. While I still really enjoyed the movie for its atmosphere and brilliant score (it’s seriously amazing), I found plot points hard to follow. But these layers add to multiple viewings and theorizing about the movie. I will definitely be looking up more information about the details that I might’ve missed and maybe even rewatch The Shining in the future. I recommend The Shining for any horror or suspense fans or just anyone who wants a great atmospheric movie. It’s also just a great classic that more people sho
