Top 5 Wednesday... 3/8

Image
Hey fellow readers, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click   HERE , if not, stay! This week’s topic is top 5 SCIFI/ fantasy books. By now it is safe to say, Victoria Schwab is my favorite author. A Darker Shade of Magic is the fourth series I’ve read by her and it has never disappointed. I’m in the middle of the third book right now and LOVING it. Oh look, my other favorite author. The Unwind series has brought me so many emotions. I’ve laughed, cried, and cheered these characters on since I was in 8th grade; it just feels so real. These are technically Urban Fantasy, but that is a subgenre of fantasy sooo :) This is another series where everyone feels so real! After the end of each series, I never want to let these characters go. I sobbed at the end of both Clockwork Princess and City of Heavenly Fire . Check these books out (and PS, I recommend reading in publication order for any Cassandra Clare novices). ...

Through the Dark Review

Image
Recently I have been reading Through the Dark by Alexandra Bracken, the bind up of the three novellas from The Darkest Minds series, and it has been amazing! I had already read the first two novellas ( In Time and Sparks Rise ) prior to this and done reviews on both so I got thinking about what blog post I could do for Through the Dark , and so this post came into creation! For anyone curious you can find information about The Darkest Minds HERE It is a dystopian YA trilogy that is now complete and is one of my all-time favorites. Anyone wondering what order to read the books in (including novellas), Alexandra Bracken says at the beginning of Through the Dark , “ The Darkest Minds, In Time, Never Fade, Sparks Rise, In The Afterlight, Beyond the Night . Or you could simply read all of the novellas after you’ve finished the novels”. Hope you enjoy this fun post! In Time Gabe's life has been devastated in the wake of the economic crash. The only optio...

Top 5 Wednesday... 2/10

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not, stay! This week’s topic is top 5 books that we had spoiled for us! Don’t worry there won’t be any spoilers in this post! I used to have a tradition of reading the last words of books first and, unsurprisingly, this is how I got the majority of books spoiled for me. It wasn’t until I got really invested in the mystery of the Mara Dyer trilogy that I started to not like spoilers, up until that point I had just shrugged off spoilers and not let them affect me. That was a series where I felt that the reading experience was truly altered by having it spoiled and if I could go back and read one book for the first time again, it would be The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer . What books have you had spoiled? Have you spoiled any books for yourself then regretted it? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Favorite Series Covers

Image
Hello fellow readers! We’ve all know the saying, don’t judge a book by its cover, and we all know that we break this rule. These are some of favorite series covers (the quality of the book has nothing to do with this list). These covers go brilliantly on your shelf and the covers look beautiful together! While I am not a fan of The Mortal Instruments covers, these are much better capturing the beauty and elegance of the era while keeping the main trio the center of the covers. I am specifically talking about the original covers but I love the new ones too. I was actually not a fan of these covers to begin with but wow they have grown on me! All three of these covers are simple, beautiful, and elegant. These are how you do people covers well! Each cover is a different striking color making them look great together on the shelf. I am talking about the US covers since I much prefer those to the UK covers. All three of these covers are extremely me...

Top 5 Wednesday... 7/22

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not stay! This week’s topic is top 5 side characters that deserve their own series! Jamie or Stella ( Mara Dyer Trilogy ) Jamie was easily my favorite non-main character from the Mara Dyer Trilogy. He has a way lighting up the darker scenes with his great sense of humor! I would love to read from Jamie’s POV and see how he sees the world and this could be a way to learn more about his character! As for Stella she was just a character that I fell didn’t get used to her full potential I fell there is still SO MUCH that I could learn about her! And I want to know where she went and what she’s doing after the Retribution. Kenji ( Shatter Me Trilogy ) Kenji was one of the tolerable characters in the Shatter Me Trilogy, he’s a fun-loving character with a great sense of humor. I would LOVE to see what he does when he’s not with Juliette and maybe we could learn more about his ch...

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not stay! This week’s topic is Top 5 chapter headers! In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken I couldn't not include a book from this series because these chapter headers are really memorable. I can recognize each book in the series just by their chapter headers! Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins  This is a really simple and beautiful header from the cursive font to the pretty bow in the corner!  Champion by Marie Lu Another memorable cover with the name of whoever's POV the chapter is from and the text color depending on which POV it's from. A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab This is actually a picture of the 'part one' page, if you know what I mean but I just really like it so I had to include it. I love the different pictures of London over the title symbolizing the Londons in the book! The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvator This...

Top 5 Wednesday... 6/24

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not stay! This week’s topic is Top 5 characters that we’d like to drown… so this should be fun! The Darkling ( Shadow and Bone ) This fandom loves this character but I JUST DON’T GET IT! He’s EVIL and MANIPULATIVE! I guess we’re all entitled to our own opinions… Amy ( Across the Universe ) I can’t say much about this one because I only read Across the Universe and it was so long ago but I remember barely being able to get through it due to the way Amy was written. To me, she talked like she was six; then she would just make stupid decisions making me dread her POVs… All of the characters in the Shatter Me Series (excluding Kenji) I’m gonna get hate for this but these characters need to get a life other than just fighting over Juliet and being butt-faces. And Juliette, YOU ARE AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN WHO DON’T NEED NO MAN! Ugh, I have very strong thoughts about this ser...

My Top Books!

Hey guys! Today I’m here to discuss some of my Top, You Can’t Go Wrong With These Books, List! The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare This series is amazing and is even better than The Mortal Instruments . I believe that Cassandra Clare truly learned from the small mistakes of the Mortal Instruments series. Plus this book has one of the best love triangles I think I’ll ever read. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken This series is a fast-paced, action packed, nail biting, roller coaster ride of a book. You are constantly on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen to your favorite characters. I’ve already talked about this book in another post HERE if you wanna see that. The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak I recently reread this book for school and it reminded me why me and other people love it. It’s told through the unique POV of Death. And has well fleshed out characters that truly feel real; you can’t help but love all of them. Mara Dyer by Michelle Ho...

Dystopian Novels

I consider myself a big reader of dystopian novels and with so many of them out there it can be hard to find a good one… that’s why I’m giving you my list of CAN’T GO WRONG WITH THESE AMAZZING DYSTOPIAN NOVELS! Fire and Flood by Victoria Scott This is a fast paced adventure with interesting characters and adorable fox creatures! Legend by Maria Lu An insane roller coaster ride of emotions following amazing characters and Marie Lu’s remarkable writing! Slated by Teri Terry  A more mysterious take on dystopia with characters with unknown pasts— Slated takes a more realistic look a dystopia dealing with issues such as terrorism in one of the more terrifying dystopian books that I’ve read.  The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken Another terrifying look on dystopia, this time with kids with powers. The characters have to decide who in this broken world that they can trust while you are on the edge of your seat worried about them Ready Player One by Erne...

Top 10 Favorite Heroes and Heroines

Hey guys it’s Meagan and today I’m going to talk about my top 10 favorite Heroes and Heroines... 10.      Clary Fray (The Mortal Instruments) I really like Clary because there are times when she is strong and kick butt. But sometimes I also feel like she just complains a lot. But other than that she is awesome! 9.        Issabelle Lightwood (The Mortal Instruments) I really like Izzy she's strong, funny, knows how to fight, and not annoying! She does what she does for a reason and I understand that reason! 8.         Tessa Gray (The Infernal Devices) I love Tessa! She's so strong, kick butt, and DOESNT complain! Plus she's got Will Herondale! 7.         Lev (Unwind) When I first read Unwind I hated Lev but then as the series went on I realized how grateful I am that he's in the series! He's so smart and mature for his age... I h...

Most Changed Characters

Hey guys it’s Meagan and today I’m here to discuss my top three most changed characters! (Note, these are in no particular order) The first character I’m going to talk about is Mara Dyer from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. In my first reading of this series I didn’t realize how much Mara changed, but it was when I went back to reread the series that I noticed how much Mara had changed. Mara went from this seemingly innocent girl who is broken and genuinely wants to get better, to a girl who is (let’s face it) insane and doesn’t give a crap that she’s insane, she’s just done with everyone’s crap. That is such a drastic change and it’s insane to see her character change like that. It’s fun though to go back and reread the first book to see how different she was. The next character I’m talking about is Ruby from The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. If you think back to Ruby in the very beginning of The Darkest Minds she was a young, frail, scared little gir...

Top 10 Books of 1014... Still Continued

Hey guys it’s Meagan and it’s that time of the year… TOP 10 BOOKS OF 2014!!! YAY *APPLAUSE* I tried to keep these books to books that came out in 2014 (except for one book, but I didn’t hear about it until 2014). And for those who don’t know, I’m revealing these two books at a time. So today I will reveal my 6 and 5 choices, then tomorrow I’ll reveal my 4 and 3 choices, and so on… So sit back and enjoy! My number 6 pick is  In the Afterlight  by Alexandra Bracken Another one of my most anticipated books of 2014, this is the finale of The Darkest Minds trilogy. This book didn’t disappoint. It brought the series back to a slower pace that  The Darkest Minds  had and I really liked it! It had great characters, a great plot, and a great ending! If you haven’t read this series you  really  need to. My number 5 pick is The Young Elites by Marie Lu I’ve been waiting for this book for so long! I love Marie Lu’s Legend series so when I heard ...
