The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer Review

Image
If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been rereading a lot of books lately, so why don’t we continue that trend with a book that I’ve now read three times— The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin.   Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong. – goodreads.com summary “Thinking something does not make it true. Wanting something does not make it real.” For anyone who doesn’t know, I am currently hosting a read along for the entire Mara Dyer trilogy on my Instagram. This is now the third time that I’ve read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and the reason I keep coming back to it is the characters. I have become attached to these characters over t...

February Wrap Up and March TBR

Another month of 2016 has come and gone, launching us into the month of March! But before then, we must look over the last month and wrap up all the books that have been read in February. February Reads The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah Through the Dark by Alexandra Bracken Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare Current Reads A Gathering of Shadows by V E Schwab March TBR Room by Emma Donoghue The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare My March TBR is kind of ambitious so I don’t know if I will get through all of those books (even if the majority of them are rereads) but we will see! Have you read any of the books mentioned above? What did you think of them? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Favorite Series Covers

Image
Hello fellow readers! We’ve all know the saying, don’t judge a book by its cover, and we all know that we break this rule. These are some of favorite series covers (the quality of the book has nothing to do with this list). These covers go brilliantly on your shelf and the covers look beautiful together! While I am not a fan of The Mortal Instruments covers, these are much better capturing the beauty and elegance of the era while keeping the main trio the center of the covers. I am specifically talking about the original covers but I love the new ones too. I was actually not a fan of these covers to begin with but wow they have grown on me! All three of these covers are simple, beautiful, and elegant. These are how you do people covers well! Each cover is a different striking color making them look great together on the shelf. I am talking about the US covers since I much prefer those to the UK covers. All three of these covers are extremely me...

Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin Read along!

Image
Recently I was thinking about how I want to reread the Mara Dyer series— these are great books filled with brilliant character development so I thought it would be the perfect series to host a read along for where I could discuss the plot and character development with others as we make our way through each book! It doesn't matter if you have already read the books (because I've read the whole series twice now) or if this would be your first time reading the series, if you would want to participate in the read along comment below! I’m shooting for us to start reading around March and it would probably be one book a month since the books are fairly large! For anyone who isn’t familiar with the series, here is a summary of the first book… Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her str...

Top 5 Wednesday... 7/22

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not stay! This week’s topic is top 5 side characters that deserve their own series! Jamie or Stella ( Mara Dyer Trilogy ) Jamie was easily my favorite non-main character from the Mara Dyer Trilogy. He has a way lighting up the darker scenes with his great sense of humor! I would love to read from Jamie’s POV and see how he sees the world and this could be a way to learn more about his character! As for Stella she was just a character that I fell didn’t get used to her full potential I fell there is still SO MUCH that I could learn about her! And I want to know where she went and what she’s doing after the Retribution. Kenji ( Shatter Me Trilogy ) Kenji was one of the tolerable characters in the Shatter Me Trilogy, he’s a fun-loving character with a great sense of humor. I would LOVE to see what he does when he’s not with Juliette and maybe we could learn more about his ch...

Rereading Books!

Some people see rereading books as a way to revisit their favorite characters and moments from a book, but not me. I’ve always had trouble getting into rereads, even of my favorite books. I can count on one hand the number of books that I’ve actually reread all the way through. I have no problem rereading my favorite parts of books, just not the whole thing. I think that’s just because I have this mind set of ‘Why read it again— I already know what’s going to happen.’ But then there are those books that lend themselves to rereads— mystery books like We Were Liars and the Mara Dyer series. I have read the first two Mara Dyer books twice and I would like to reread the whole series one more time, because each time I read it I find out something new about the characters! We Were Liars is a great reread since you can go back and look for small details and foreshadowing that wouldn’t have meant anything the first read around.' So are you like me and find it hard to reread b...

Top 5 Wednesday... 6/24

Hey guys, welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! If you don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is then click HERE , if not stay! This week’s topic is Top 5 characters that we’d like to drown… so this should be fun! The Darkling ( Shadow and Bone ) This fandom loves this character but I JUST DON’T GET IT! He’s EVIL and MANIPULATIVE! I guess we’re all entitled to our own opinions… Amy ( Across the Universe ) I can’t say much about this one because I only read Across the Universe and it was so long ago but I remember barely being able to get through it due to the way Amy was written. To me, she talked like she was six; then she would just make stupid decisions making me dread her POVs… All of the characters in the Shatter Me Series (excluding Kenji) I’m gonna get hate for this but these characters need to get a life other than just fighting over Juliet and being butt-faces. And Juliette, YOU ARE AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN WHO DON’T NEED NO MAN! Ugh, I have very strong thoughts about this ser...

My Top Books!

Hey guys! Today I’m here to discuss some of my Top, You Can’t Go Wrong With These Books, List! The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare This series is amazing and is even better than The Mortal Instruments . I believe that Cassandra Clare truly learned from the small mistakes of the Mortal Instruments series. Plus this book has one of the best love triangles I think I’ll ever read. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken This series is a fast-paced, action packed, nail biting, roller coaster ride of a book. You are constantly on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen to your favorite characters. I’ve already talked about this book in another post HERE if you wanna see that. The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak I recently reread this book for school and it reminded me why me and other people love it. It’s told through the unique POV of Death. And has well fleshed out characters that truly feel real; you can’t help but love all of them. Mara Dyer by Michelle Ho...

Top 3 Favorite Antiheroes

Image
Hey guys it’s Meagan and today I’m here to talk about my Top 3 Favorite Antiheroes! Victor Victor is an amazing character with a great backstory and so much development throughout the book! Mara A truly insane character that you can’t help but root for as she struggles to do what is right. Adelina Can I consider her an antihero? Well I am! I love this character; she is so strong while still having a dark side to her. I can’t wait to read more of her story. Who are some of your favorite antiheroes? Comment below and let me know! Keep Reading… BYE!!!

Most Changed Characters

Hey guys it’s Meagan and today I’m here to discuss my top three most changed characters! (Note, these are in no particular order) The first character I’m going to talk about is Mara Dyer from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. In my first reading of this series I didn’t realize how much Mara changed, but it was when I went back to reread the series that I noticed how much Mara had changed. Mara went from this seemingly innocent girl who is broken and genuinely wants to get better, to a girl who is (let’s face it) insane and doesn’t give a crap that she’s insane, she’s just done with everyone’s crap. That is such a drastic change and it’s insane to see her character change like that. It’s fun though to go back and reread the first book to see how different she was. The next character I’m talking about is Ruby from The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. If you think back to Ruby in the very beginning of The Darkest Minds she was a young, frail, scared little gir...

Top 10 Books of 1014... Continued

Hey guys it’s Meagan and it’s that time of the year… TOP 10 BOOKS OF 2014!!! YAY *APPLAUSE* I tried to keep these books to books that came out in 2014 (except for one book, but I didn’t hear about it until 2014). And for those who don’t know, I’m revealing these two books at a time. So today I will reveal my 8 and 7 choices, then tomorrow I’ll reveal my 6 and 5 choices, and so on… So sit back and enjoy!  My number eight is  The Retribution of Mara Dyer  by Michelle Hodkin This was one of my most anticipated books of 2014 so I had very high expectations for it. This book had pretty much everything I wanted in it (great characters, answers, and a good ending). This book still had a few pacing issues for me but it still did more than justice to the series and I will read whatever Michelle does after this. My number seven is  White Space by Ilsa J Bick This was a book that I found just randomly right after it came out. The premise sounded really interest...

The Retribution of Mara Dyer Review

Image
Hello guys, it’s Meagan and today I’m here to review the insane, crazy, amazing book the is The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. *NOTE* This is the last book in the Mara Dyer series so I don’t recommend reading any further unless you have read up to at least the second book in the series ( The Evolution of Mara Dyer ). It had to end sometime, but Mara had no idea it would end like this. Experience the mind-blowing conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Mara Dyer trilogy. Mara Dyer wants to believe there's more to the lies she’s been told. There is. She doesn’t stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead. She should. She never had to imagine how far she would go for vengeance. She will now. Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story. Retribution has arrived.- goodreads.com summery Rating I would say that I woul...
