Parks and Recreation Review

Image
Imagine me just scrolling then Netflix, when all of the sudden I see Parks and Recreation Season Seven... WHAAATTTT! This season came out of nowhere for me; I had no idea that they were coming out with a new season! I had actually finished season six last May and really enjoyed it. The short thirty second nature of the episodes made them quick and easy to watch, allowing me to finish all six seasons in about a two weeks. Then, during this past week, I was able to get through season seven quickly by just watching two episodes a night before I go to bed. Parks and Recreation is a great show to pick up and put back down at random times and still be able to understand what is going on— check it out if you haven’t already! Going into season seven my greatest worry was wondering if it was going to stand up to the quality of the other seasons— mostly it does. Season seven brings in the interesting idea of having a time jump between the last episode of season six and episode one of

Clockwork Angel Review

Image
It’s so refreshing when you can go back to a book that you read in middle school and remember why you love it. In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series. The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them... – goodread.com summary As some of you might know if you fol

My TBR

I’m the type of person that likes to plan out every aspect of my day, and that aspect of my personality has bled over into when I read. I like to make a plan for reading and have a TBR list for every book that I plan to read a few weeks ahead. Because of this, I thought I’d share some of the books on my upcoming TBR. At the moment I’m reading Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, but once I finish I plan to read… Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah Continue Les Misérables by Victor Hugo Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins Lady Renegades by Rachel Hawkins I don’t know if I’ll get through all the books I mentioned above or when I’ll read them but these are the books that I am looking forward to and planning to read! Have you read any of the books mentioned above? What did you think of them? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Winter TV Premieres!

Image
It’s January so you know what that means… TV SHOW PREMIERES! Just to get it out of the way, This post will only be about shows that had a new season premiere in January— yes Flash and Arrow came back on but middle of the season episodes are going to be structured differently than a season premiere. SHADOWHUNTERS Let’s get this one out of the way first! I had EXTREMELY low hopes for Shadowhunters mostly because it is on ABC Family (*clears throat* Oh sorry Freeform…) and that station isn’t really known for Fantasy. I was worried about the CGI and the fact that most TV studios don’t have the budget to pull something based in fantasy like The Mortal Instruments off and not make it look cheesy. The Flash looks insanely cheesy at times but it WORKS because the show KNOWS it’s cheesy and jokes about it. The show doesn’t go for a serious tone but sadly Shadowhunters does. Even then, the CGI is not my biggest problem with Shadowhunters (I can actually look past it pretty easi

Passenger Review

Image
Hello! Many of you have probably heard someone in the book blogging or booktubing circuit talk about Alexandra Bracken’s new novel Passenger . Everyone is raving about, praising it as another one of Bracken’s great books, but are these praises earned? In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now. Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of un

Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin Read along!

Image
Recently I was thinking about how I want to reread the Mara Dyer series— these are great books filled with brilliant character development so I thought it would be the perfect series to host a read along for where I could discuss the plot and character development with others as we make our way through each book! It doesn't matter if you have already read the books (because I've read the whole series twice now) or if this would be your first time reading the series, if you would want to participate in the read along comment below! I’m shooting for us to start reading around March and it would probably be one book a month since the books are fairly large! For anyone who isn’t familiar with the series, here is a summary of the first book… Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her str

Lair of Dreams Review

Image
I had been looking forward to the sequel to The Diviners by Libba Bray ever since I first read the mystical historical fiction novel. The writing and characters were refreshing and I couldn’t wait to see how Bray would follow it up— little did I know I’d have to wait years to find that out. *THIS IS A SECOND BOOK IN A SERIES! THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST BOOK! SORRY* After a supernatural showdown with a serial killer, Evie O’Neill has outed herself as a Diviner. With her uncanny ability to read people’s secrets, she’s become a media darling, earning the title “America’s Sweetheart Seer.” Everyone’s in love with the city’s newest It Girl…everyone except the other Diviners. Piano-playing Henry DuBois and Chinatown resident Ling Chan are two Diviners struggling to keep their powers a secret—for they can walk in dreams. And while Evie is living the high life, victims of a mysterious sleeping sickness are turning up across New York City. As Henry searches for a l

Christmas Book Haul!

Image
Since I had been posting updates for Bout of Books all last week I never actually got a chance to post a book haul from after Christmas, so her goes nothing! Are you tired of me talking about this book yet? Well sorry… I bought it while I was strolling through Barnes and Noble after Christmas. The cover caught my eye because it had the abandoned New York City Hall subway station on it— after that I couldn’t help but buy the book. Most of you probably know that I’ve already read Lair of Dreams now and there will be a review coming soon! I have been looking forward to this book since it was originally announced! I have been a fan of Alexandra Bracken’s novels since The Darkest Minds series so I have high expectations for Passenger . What I’ve read of it as of now is really good so I am excited to continue reading and see where the story goes. Plus… DO YOU SEE THAT COVER? IT’S GORGEOUS! Yes, I bought the new covers of The Infernal Devices ! I actually had only owned

Bout of Books 15 Weekend Update

Bout of Books has now come to a close this weekend! This post will be an update for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all together since I was busy all weekend and didn’t get to post an update until now. I did still get to read this weekend though, just not as much as during the week. On Friday and Saturday I read the last 100 pages of Lair of Dreams which I really enjoyed. Look forward to a review on that coming later this week! Today I started reading Passenger by Alexandra Bracken and read 50 pages. I am extremely excited to continue reading this book because just the few pages that I have read have already gripped me and pulled me into the action— I can’t wait to keep reading! How did Bout of Books go for you (if you participated)? What are you currently reading? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Bout of Books 15 Day 4

Bout of Books day 4 has just passed us by and this wasn’t the big reading day I wanted it to be. I still read 100 pages of Lair of Dreams despite school doing everything in its power to have me not read those pages, but I didn’t get to finish the book. I still have about 100 pages left in Lair of Dreams so I’ll finish that tomorrow, but other than that I don’t think I’m going to get to read much tomorrow and Saturday because I will be attending Wizard World Comic Con in New Orleans all day this Saturday so that will be taking up most of my time… How is your reading going? What are you reading at the moment? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Bout of Books 15 Day 3

We are steadily making our way through the Bout of Books Read-a-thon now having completed day 3! Day 3 was great for me since I read 120 pages of Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray! I have about 200 pages left so I hope to finish that as soon as possible so I can move on to Passenger !  What are you currently reading? Are you participating in the read-a-thon? I will probably read more later tonight (since I'm just writing this before I put my computer up) and everything I read after this will be counted in tomorrow’s reading count. 2016 Goals

Happy 2016! *Cheers* *Fireworks* Now that it is 2016 it is time to talk about the important topic of New Year’s Resolutions. I’m not one to make a resolution and stick to it (who is really); I’ve come to not like strict reading goals (for example to read 50 book) so that is why I won’t have one of those this year even though I will still be keeping a list of all the books that I read this year. With that out of the way let’s get started! My reading goals are vague, but after that bad reading year that was 2015 my main goal is to read whatever I like. This year I don’t want to get caught up trying to push through a book that I don’t like just because it is popular. I also want to branch out and give more books a shot. I started doing this a little last year (by reading more high fantasy and starting to read Les Mis ) and I would like to continue this trend into 2016. When it comes to movies and TV shows I think I did a good job in 2015 of branching out and watching a lot of
