From the throne
of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch.
Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet
Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she
knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the
deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not
the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried
deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one
is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol,
the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess
with a rebel heart.
Then one
terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable
tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very
thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties
lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for. -goodreads.com summary
INTRO
I think by this point y’all get it: I’m
making my way through Sarah J Maas’s books and they’re pretty great. Nothing
else to intro here!
THE GOOD
Celaena: SUCH a dork! But a dork that could
kick my butt in .2 seconds… I love her so much more in Crown of Midnight than I
did in the Assassin’s Blade. Here we see so much more of her just laughing and
having fun. This is the part of Celaena that I love and hope we continue seeing
in future novels!
Mort: omg I love! So much sass! PLEASE be a
recurring character because I kinda love him (or it? Do door knockers have
genders…? Who knows!)
Fleetfoot: still my fav. If anything
happens I will riot… but Sarah J Maas said he’ll 100% survive the series so
DON’T TOUCH MY ADORABLE FLUFF BALL!
Dorian VS Chaol: In my humble opinion,
Celaena and Dorian definitely have more in common than Chaol and Celaena, but I
don’t have anything against Chaol and Celaena, they’re pretty adorable. I’m
glad Choal got more focus in Crown of Midnight but I’d still like to know more
about him. What does he do for fun? What’s his favorite color?! IS HE A CAT
PERSON OR A DOG PERSON?! THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS! I didn’t like Dorian as
much in Crown of Midnight as much as I did in Throne of Glass (mostly because
he’s salty about Chaol and Celaena, but I guess he would be after getting kinda
rejected…) but he had some development that I can’t wait to see more of!
THE BAD
*sigh* SO bear with me but I don’t really
have any major issues with Crown of Midnight. But “why not rate it five stars?”
You ask… It’s hard to explain but it just feels like a four star book. I really
liked it but I don’t see myself ever rereading it or coming back to it in the
future. It just wasn’t anything too memorable.
OVERALL
As I said above, I did really enjoy Crown
of Midnight! I liked it better than both Throne of Glass and The Assassin’s
Blade, but I can’t really see myself coming back to it ever again. With that
said, it was full of all the characters I loved from the first book and more explanations
of magic (which I LOVE!) I cant wait to learn more about this world and the
magic that exists within it (we might get to meet fae in the next book… I’M
EXCITED!)
BEWARE! SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!
*****************
***SPOILERS***
AELIN: SO BADASS I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO
DO ANYMORE! This was yet another thing I kinda spoiled for myself (I should
really stop doing that) but either way I love her fae form! I want to learn
more about her past and can’t wait to read more about her!
Nehemia: HEARTBREAKING! To me, the saddest
thing about her death was how it kind of paralleled when Sam died. This makes
things double sad because omg I LOVED Sam and Nehemia and now I’m thinking
about BOTH of them dead! *sobs* After her death everything kind of went to shit
and poor Chaol because that really ruined him and Celaena’s friendship. But
hopefully, now that we know he was kind of set up, they can try to rebuild that
friendship.
Archer: I was actually a big fan of Archer.
He was charismatic and likeable and I believed whatever he told Celaena. Then
he turned out to be evil… This was a really well crafted reveal and it caught
me, a person who’s had 90% of this series spoiled for her, off guard. I
probably wouldn’t have wanted Celaena to kill him in the end, but then he
brought up Sam’s death and that makes him dead to me.
Dorian with powers: I love learning about
the magic in this series so I WANT TO KNOW MORE! Hopefully his dead doesn’t
find out and kill him or something… please don’t let that happen… please…
Chaol’s Plan: This plan surprised me but it’s
sweet because Chaol wants to help Celaena be free and safe, even if means she’s
away from him. This obviously makes me sad because my favorite three amigos won’t
be together for Heir of Fire, but we’ll still get Chaol and Dorian chapters,
right? And if Celaena gets to meet more fae, I’m happy!
GREAT REVIEW GAHHHHHHHHHAHAHH.
ReplyDeleteSince I kind of binged the whole series I don't remember what happened in each book exactly. BUT I REMEMBER THAT DORIAN WAS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER EVER.
But just a precaution... maybe you shouldn't get behind any ships.
THANKSSSS!
DeleteI'm making my way through the series right now (I'm actually on Empire of Storms rn... I'm behind on posting reviews XD) and I feel. A year from now I probably won't be able to tell the books from one another.
DORIAN IS MY FAVORITE LITTLE PUPPY DOG!
And I'm actually torn on ships Rowan and Aelin isn't my favorite... but the only ship I LOVED was Sam and Celaena and we know how that ended... we'll see how I feel after Empire of Storms!
