Rebel Belle Review

Hey guys it’s Meagan and today I’m here to review Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins, a book about fun filled adventures with Paladins… kind of…

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.
Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.
With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.-goodreads.com summery

Rating
So first thing’s first, I would definitely reread this book (and probably will one day!). It was a quick, fun and light read but it still had and interesting and engaging story with great characters!

Things I Liked
Like I said, this is a read quick and fun read. There are a lot of funny lines and jokes to offset a (slightly) more serious plot, and I love it. The light tone really makes the book fly by! And the jokes are also a good way for the author to introduce the characters (which she does). I like most of the characters in this book. No stupid love triangle where you like one side and hate the other; I loved all of Harper’s friends! They all acted logically and like human beings would actually act in a situation like this.
I also really liked the plot. It took a different spin on the usual Urban Fantasy cliché of ‘girl gets magical abilities, girl meets group of people who also have magical abilities, girl falls in love with someone with magical abilities… yay’ A good bit of the first act of this book is actually Harper and David just trying to figure out what the heck is going on, and I loved it! I loved to see Harper trying to figure out about her Paladin abilities without any help or knowing what was going on. The plot also picked up and got intense towards the end.

Things I Didn’t Like
There wasn’t really anything that I didn’t like except for one thing… I found a plot hole towards the end of the book, but since it involves a major part of the ending, I’ll keep my mouth shut. If you would like to know what plot hole I’m talking about, ask me in the comments and I’ll respond to you down there.

Overall
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Rebel Belle and I can see myself enjoying it again in the future! It’s a great read for anyone who needs something quick and easy to get them out of a reading slump!
