Cinder Review

I had heard numerous amazing things about Cinder by Marissa Meyer before I was finally convinced to pick it up. I was put off by the cyborg element and how that would tie into the retelling, but I eventually picked the book up a year ago from my school library. I read halfway through the book and I really started to enjoy it but then I had to return the book to the library. I hadn’t had the chance to pick the book back up and finish it until now!

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless Lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future. –goodreads.com summary

Now that I have finished Cinder I would recommend it and can see myself rereading it in the future! I really enjoyed it and it wasn’t at all what I was expecting (that’s a good thing.)! The cyborg element (what I was worried about) didn’t seem to bother me— it just flowed with the plot.

The characters were interesting and likeable although I’d like to know a little more about some of them and their motivations. Maybe that could be mentioned in the other books in the series (although I think each book follows a different person) but we’ll see! (Or I’ll see… you probably already know the answers to all the questions I’m asking since I’m so late on reading this series XD).

My favorite element of the book was space and the conflict of the commonwealth V Lunar— it was just really interesting for me to read about this power struggle between the two and the politics! I want to know more about this world and how it works! I’m really excited for this world to be more fleshed out in the next books in the series!

Overall I really enjoyed Cinder! It was not what I expected but it exceeded my expectations and I’m glad people convinced me to read it!

Have you read Cinder? What did you think of it? Did you enjoy the SCI-FI elements like me?

Meagan!
