Authors Returning to Past Series

I’ve seen a growing trend in YA that both excites and worries me. This trend is authors coming back to their most popular series or world, instead of writing different novels set with completely different worlds and plots. The examples are endless from Rick Riordan being one of the first I noticed doing this, to Cassandra Clare, and more recently Leigh Bardugo. I was a big fan of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series back in middle school! I’ve read most of those books multiple times, but when I was reading The Mark of Athena , I just found myself no longer caring about these characters. I stopped halfway through the novel, and it was the last Rick Riordan novel I’ve attempted to read. I still see all of the different mythology series that he is releasing but I just can’t bring myself to care. All I can think about is how it feels like Rick Riordan is just trying to get every last penny out of these books and characters while he can. Now let me back up and say, I h...

My First Books

Everyone has those first books that really get them into reading! And everyone remembers the first book that they binge read. For most people I talk to, those books are Harry Potter , but not for me… I first read the Percy Jackson series back in sixth grade (it was a really popular series in my grade at the time). I took my time with both the first and second book but I flew through the last three books! I loved them so much that immediately after I finished the series I had a huge book hangover and reread the last three books again. This got me excited to read more books. Then in seventh grade, The Hunger Games became popular. I read those books fairly quickly. Then after I finished The Hunger Games series, I looked for similar books on Amazon and that’s how I found the Legend series! At the time only Legend had been published but I sped through that book in two days then waited not so patiently for Prodigy to come out. Binge reading Legend is what launched my love for ...

Book Adaptations that Deserve a Second Chance

We all have those favorite books that get turned it movies. You hear about the movie, you hold out hope that it’ll be good, but when you go see it; you are hopelessly disappointed. That has fueled my idea for a discussion today; books turned movies that deserve a second chance to be a better movie. Percy Jackson So I’m starting this one off with the obvious answer. These are fun adventure books with a great story and even better characters! The series also has a built-in fan base so it’s guaranteed to make money (and you know what executives what… MONEY MONEY MONEY!). Now the built-in fan base could’ve been the movie’s down fall to begin with because Hollywood thought, Hey! People already like this! They’ll see it whether it’s good or bad! We don’t have to put any effort into this! But if Hollywood put the effort into making a Percy Jackson movie, it could definitely be good! City of Bones My next pick should be obvious for any fans of this series. While the City of Bon...
