My {Angry} Thoughts on Huck Finn

Image
Some of you might remember earlier in the week when I was reading Huck Finn for the booktube-a-thon. I might’ve mentioned that I wasn’t too fond of it, but my feelings for Huck Finn go further than that… Mister Twain, I have a bone to pick with you! Yeah I know what you’re thinking… but you can’t dislike Huck Finn Meagan! It’s a classic! And to that I say that the only reason this book is a classic is because it was written by Mark Twain; if it was released today it would be another forgotten YA book. It is just so poorly structured; full of repetition and the ending was tied in way too pretty of a bow. What I’m talking about structurally is that fact this book is essentially just one scene over and over again with little variation. All that happens in the book is just Huck and friends meet someone new. Then he lies to them a bit but something goes wrong to put Huck in trouble… CUE SHENANIGANS! I noticed this pattern about 50 pages in and I was worried that the whole book w...

Booktube-a-thon Rap-up!

THE BOOKTUBE-A-THON HAS ENDED! YES! Finally the Booktube-a-thon has ended and I got a decent amount of reading done during it! I read 170 pages of Huck Finn and 100 pages of Les Miserables! This makes my overall reading total for the week 270; not bad for me! Did you participate in the booktube-a-thon? What are you reading at the moment? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Booktube-a-thon Days 3 & 4!

TWO MORE DAYS OF THE BOOKTUBE-A-THON ARE GONE! Wow time flies! Sorry I missed a day but I started school today so I was busy getting things ready for that so this will be an update for today AND yesterday! Yesterday I read about 50 pages of Huck Finn (finally) finishing that out! I had been reading it since before the read-a-thon and I'm glad to be done!  Today I started Les Mis (yes finally!) and got 40 pages in! I'm excited to get further into this one as I've been waiting all summer to finally read the brick! Are you participating in the Booktube-a-thon? What are you reading at the moment? Keep reading... Meagan!

Booktube-a-thon Day 2

Another day of the Booktube-a-thon has passed!  Today I got the same amount of reading done as yesterday-- another 60 pages of Huck Finn. I am now almost done with Huck Finn and I can't wait to finally be done with summer reading. Are you participating in the booktube-a-thon? What are you reading right now? Keep Reading... Meagan!

Booktube-a-thon Day 1

DAY ONE OF THE BOOKTUBE-A-THON IS OVER!!! Wow that went fast! But I did get some reading done! I read about 60 pages of Huck Finn and I can definitely say that I am not a fan of this one... More on why later but it's just not what I expected and I don't get what people see in it. But I have to finish it for school so you'll see another update on Huck Finn tomorrow! Are you participating in the Booktube-a-thon? What are you reading?  Keep reading... Meagan!

Booktube-a-thon TBR!

HELLO! The Booktube-a-thon will be happening next week from August 3 rd – 9 th and I’m excited! If you don’t know the booktube-a-thon is a week where you read as much as possible. It’s very fun and I encourage you to participate (even if you’re like me and don’t have a Booktube account). As some of you might know, the booktube-a-thon involves challenges that you can fulfill with your reading so now I’m going to list my TBR that I would like to get through next week! Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain To America: Personal Reflections of an Historian by Ambrose, Stephen E. These are both my summer reading books that I have to finish next week. These books will fulfill the blue cover challenge and the last book you purchased challenge. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo This is a book that I’ve been wanting to read for a while! Once I get through my school books I will be starting Les Mis and I hope to get at least a few hundred pages into it! This will fulfil...

Reading Update

Image
Hey readers! It’s time for a reading update! At the moment I’m (slowly) powering through my summer reading books. I’ve already read Miss Peregrine’s once and LOVED it so now that I’m rereading it I’m enjoying it again! I am loving to revisit these characters and these places and I’m excited to finish the book! I am also reading Huck Finn for school. I was not looking forward to this book and still have not gotten far into it, but I’m sure that will change soon! Have you read either of these books? What did you think about them? Keep Reading… Meagan!

Book Beginnings

Image
Hey guys welcome to Book Beginnings a meme hosted by Rose City Reader where you post the first sentence of your current read and your thoughts on that sentence. “You don’t know about me, without you have read a book by the name of ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,’ but that ain’t no matter. That book was made by Mr. Mark Twain and he told the truth, mainly.” I have to read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for summer reading this year and at first I was very skeptical since I was not a fan of Mark Twain’s The Prince and The Pauper , but these first few lines made me excited to read Huck Finn! I love Mark Twain’s use of breaking the forth wall— it’s very creative and I don’t see it don’t very often in books the way that he did it here! Keep Reading… Meagan!
